SOUTH CAROLINA CHANGES ABSENTEE PROCEDURES
May 3, 2006
The Governor of South Carolina has recently signed into law changes to South Carolina’s Absentee Voting Procedures for UOCAVA citizens. The changes include:
-Voters are required to provide their Social Security number to complete the FPCA.
-Voters will be mailed ballots at least 45 days prior to the election.
-Voters are now able to receive the blank ballot by fax or email under any conditions or circumstances.
-Voters are now able to receive the return the voted ballot by fax or email under any conditions or circumstances.
The South Carolina State Election Commission prefers ballots to be faxed directly to county election commissions. Fax numbers for all county election commissioner officers are available through the South Carolina State Election Commission website at http://www.scvotes.org/howtoregister./
The South Carolina state pages of the Voting Assistance Guide have been updated to reflect the new changes. The pages are available at http://www.fvap.gov/pubs/vag/pdfvag/sc.pdf.
The FVAP can be contacted through the DoD Voting Information Center (VIC). Citizens may reach the VIC toll-free from 67 countries using the toll-free numbers listed on the FVAP website, www.fvap.gov. The VIC provides recorded messages from candidates, as well as other information concerning elections, 24 hours a day. Questions regarding the above may also be referred to the Director, Federal Voting Assistance Program, Department of Defense, 1155 Defense Pentagon, Washington, D.C. 20301-1155, vote@fvap.ncr.gov and on the World Wide Web at www.fvap.gov.
