Cultural Preservation Donation
The U.S. Ambassador to Mongolia, Mark C. Minton, presented a check for $86,200 from the State Department’s Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation to the Arts Council of Mongolia and Amarbayasgalant Monastery in a press conference and ceremony on June 24. This donation will fund a project to assess and reduce the threats of fire and theft to Amarbayasgalant Monastery, thus preserving this historical treasure for future generations. The ceremony took place at the Amarbayasgalant Monastery, nestled in a green valley 350 km from the capital. In addition to the Ambassador, Board Members of the Arts Council, and the Monastery’s Head Lama, Member of Parliament Bat-Uul, Selenge province governor Erdenebat, and other local and national officials participated in this special event. Reporters from eight Mongolian media outlets covered the ceremony, and their stories will help generate more interest in the Monastery and this project.
