U.S. National War College Students Visit Mongolia

A group of nine students and a faculty member from the United States National War College visited Mongolia May 17 to May 23 as part of their regional studies focused on North East Asia.  The purpose of the visit was to help the students gain a perspective of the strategic security issues Mongolia faces today.  While in Mongolia, the students met with U.S. Ambassador Mark Minton, as well as representatives of numerous governmental and nongovernmental agencies of Mongolia including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Ministry of Defense, the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Internal Troops, the National University of Mongolia, the Independent Authority Against Corruption, the Institute for Strategic Studies, local media outlets, and prominent businesses.  The group also had an opportunity to tour the Five Hills Training Center and Terelj National Park.  The overall mission of the National War College, a part of the National Defense University, is to educate future leaders of the Armed Forces, State Department, and other civilian agencies for high-level policy, command, and staff responsibilities. Studies are primarily focused on U.S. strategic policy and assessing means of policy implementation.
