“Trio Chicago & Friends” (TC&F) visited Mongolia and gave wonderful performances of American jazz, blues, folk and classical music May 23-29, 2009. This American ensemble conducts tours and performs around the globe as cultural ambassadors, now adding Mongolia to their long list of stops.
TC&F performed in Erdenet, Darkhan, and Ulaanbaatar. The local theaters especially appreciated this rare opportunity to hear American music and responded with their own local cultural performances in each city. The local Morin Huur orchestra performances in honor of TC&F created unforgettable joint concerts in which the musicians discovered similarities in their different styles of music and instruments. In addition TC&F gave workshops and master classes at the University of Culture, College of Music and Dance and for professional institutions such as the State Opera House and Philharmonic Hall. The feedback about the visiting musicians’ professional contribution was excellent.
The group consisting of founder and violinist Elliott Golub, co-founder Marlou Johnston on the viola, pianist Kay Kim, flutist Laura Hamm, and soprano Pamela Hinchman, thoroughly enjoyed their stay in Mongolia and the opportunity to reach such a wide variety of audiences. More information about TC&F is available at their website, www.triochicago.com.
Thank you to all of our Mongolian hosts and sponsors who made this special cultural exchange possible!
