MEDICAL FACILITIES SERVING FOREIGNERS IN UB

This is a partial list of medical services available in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. This list is provided to U.S. citizens as a convenience only. An asterisk (*) denotes a firm’s English-speaking contact; a double asterisk (**) denotes firms with limited English-speaking capability. HOSPITALS/CLINICS *SOS MEDICA MONGOLIA This is the most modern medical facility in Mongolia, equivalent to a U.S. general practice with all English-speaking staff. Appointments can be made. It has X-ray and general lab facilities on site. Membership-based facility; non-members will be treated, but must pay US$90 to local doctors and US$180 to International doctors for a basic examinations and additional fees for medicine and other treatment. Can refer patients to specialists and other facilities if necessary. Cash and some credit cards accepted. This Mongolian-run facility is the designated hospital for high-ranking officials of the Mongolia government. 24-hour ambulance service is available. Call for an appointment beforehand. Facilities are more modern than the Russian Hospital with a few private rooms with refrigerator and TV. Translation services are provided if an English-speaking doctor is not available. It is best to bring interpreter and someone to accompany you to supervise your diagnosis and treatment.

It is located at Peace Avenue just to the east of the Petrovis station, at the Intersection of the Peace Avenue and the Big Ring Road.
24-hour ambulance service is available. It has a facility for treating trauma cases. Call for an appointment beforehand. May need Russian language interpreter. It is best to bring interpreter and someone to accompany you to supervise your diagnosis and treatment.

Patients are referred to this hospital in cases of serious infections that cannot be treated at other facilities. This is not a general admission hospital. There are standard wings, which charge local prices, and a private VIP wing, that charges 20,000 Mongolian Tugrugs per day.
An English-speaking nurse provided in the VIP wing. They are improving the English-speaking staff numbers to increase knowledge base with internet training.

This hospital is situated on the eastern part of UB, past the auto/hardware black market. It has a green painted roof. The building is very old, but surprisingly clean inside. They have 33 doctors, 92 nurses, 113 medical and 83 technical workers.

Orthopedic hospital situated on the 4th floor of the Russian hospital. Passable English for treatments. He cannot do orthoscopic surgery, but has an x-ray machine built in 1996 for rod and screw placement for open surgeries. He can cast and splint as well. Using US products given through the Swanson Foundation.
He is available 24/7. He has inpatient services as well as a kitchen that will prepare anything you want. Everything is covered in the cost of the surgery.

Facility handles all obstetrical levels. Prenatal to neonatology rooms. There are no private rooms to general public. Appeared clean, very adequate by Mongolian standards. They deliver 12,000 babies a year.

Court Resolution is required **EAR, NOSE AND THROAT CLINIC Valentina Aleksandrovna MD Nurse - 30 years experience in ear, nose and throat practice. She speaks only Russian with a little German from her schooling. She uses the lab in the Russian hospital where she is practicing. She does not prefer to use antibiotics, but anti-virals. In her practice she uses some magneto-electrical apparatus’ for diagnostics and treatments. She uses acupuncture as well. She mentioned using kerosene for cleansing the mouth, ears and nose but not for ingestion, nor inhalation.
10,000 tugrugs for initial visit and 3,000 for follow-ups.

Owner is Mr. Schopj and his wife Nomin. Mr. Schopj is German and his wife is Mongolian. They both speak English.
The Clinic has 4 dentists. The staff is very friendly and communicating in English is no problem. The Clinic is clean and they practice excellent infection control procedures. The equipment is new and in excellent condition. They use good quality supplies and materials of Germany and United States.
