"Legal Education in the USA"

On October 1, 2009 the American Corner Ulaanbaatar hosted a lecture on legal education in the USA by Fulbright visiting professor Beth Schwartz.  The lecture was mainly about law schools in the US and the comparison between legal education in the US and Mongolia.  She did some assessments based on her visit with the Mongolian Law School at National University and showed the differences and similarities in law studies between the two countries.

She said that in Mongolia the legal education department is the part of the National University, but in the US it is a separate independent school that provides law education. There are many different activities and trainings for the American law students in order to practice the knowledge they gain in school. Those trainings are crucial for future lawyers.

36 students attended this lecture, mostly from legal department of National University. They asked about job opportunities for law school graduates and how to apply for scholarships to study in law schools.

Some comments from students are: “This was a very good lecture. We would like also to hear some specialists from an Economic school”. “It’s good opportunity to learn about the differences between our countries’ educational system.”
