Green Card Holders
The Embassy cannot provide replacement Permanent Resident cards ("green cards") or extend the validity of an expired card. However, if your card has been lost, stolen, or is expired, you may come to the Embassy to apply for a transportation letter to travel back to the United States. For issuance of transportation letter email us for an appointment at ubiv@usembassy.mn.
Please be advised that in order to obtain a transportation letter, you must provide proof of your current legal permanent resident status (photocopy of green card, etc.). You must also prove that you have been in the U.S. within the last year. In addition to this proof, you will also need to:
-
submit your passport
-
provide three identical photos and;
-
pay the Transportation Letter fee of $165 (or its equivalent in MNT). Payment may be made in cash. No checks are accepted.
Important Note: If you need a transportation letter, please allow at least two weeks for the issuance of a letter. The U.S. Embassy in Ulaanbaatar does not have a resident Department of Homeland Security representative and therefore must seek approval at the DHS representative at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing.
For information on replacing your lost/stolen/expired green card upon reentering the US, please consult the Department of Homeland Security US Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) website for detailed instructions.
