Notice to Students

NOTICE ABOUT STUDENT VISAS

More than 11,000 student and exchange visas have been issued over the past 10 years; almost all students who are accepted into accredited, degree granting institutions and have achieved the required English language proficiency are able to qualify for visas to study in the United States.

In order to apply for a student visa, the applicant must first be accepted to an institute of study. The necessary forms will be supplied to the applicant by the institution, not the U.S. embassy. Given the history of the abuse by Mongolians of English as a Second Language studies, please note that it is now extremely difficult to qualify for ESL study.

To qualify for a nonimmigrant visa, applicants must clearly demonstrate their intent to depart the United States at the conclusion of their studies by proving that they have strong ties to their home country and a residence to which they will return. Applicants must also present proof that they have the financial resources available to pay for the first year of school.

Those who are denied a visa always have the option of reapplying. Applicants who provide incorrect information, conceal relevant facts, or misrepresent their cases may become permanently ineligible to enter the United States, and some may face prosecution.
