The American Cultural and Information Center

Background

The American Cultural and Information Center (ACIC) in Ulaanbaatar is a small American style library. The Center is operated jointly by the US Embassy and the Ulaanbaatar Public Library. The Center helps students, researchers, teachers and general public to learn more about the USA and supports mutual understanding between the U.S.A and Mongolia. The Center offers different resources and information on American topics, provides Internet access, an English Language library and reference services.

Services 

English language library resource

The ACIC library has over 4000 books on US government, politics, foreign relations, history, culture, economics, literature, and English teaching. The collection also includes books on topics including natural sciences, computer science, geography etc.

Current U.S. magazines and   newspapers are also available, including a number of scholarly journals.  

Internet Resources

The ACIC has six high-speed Internet workstations available for users. The ACIC staff can assist visitors in searching online resources for material on the USA or about subjects such as TOEFL preparation, online English lessons, and study opportunities in U.S. Universities and Colleges.     

Reference questions

Visitors with specific reference questions or who are looking for material on a special subject can consult the ACIC staff or leave written reference requests. Reference results can be presented in person or sent via email.

Lecture series

American Cultural and Information center hosts the” Let’s Talk about America” lecture series. The lectures are in English, every Thursday at 4.00 PM

English Teacher Training

The Senior English Language Fellow from the U.S. Embassy organizes weekly training sessions for Mongolian English language teachers and students from different academic institutions.

 

Everyone is welcome to use the resources at the American Cultural & Information Center. To check out books and for regular internet access you need to have Ulaanbaatar Public Library registration. We can help you obtain that registration.
