U.S. Ambassador and Students Discuss Hopes for Mongolia’s Future

Ambassador Minton met December 20 with Mongolian university students who are studying in Ulaanbaatar on the Friends of Mongolia scholarship. The Ambassador talked with them about his work and how his student experiences led him to pursue a career in international affairs. The scholarship students shared information about their studies and their hopes for the future.

Friends of Mongolia is a non-profit charitable and educational organization founded by former Peace Corps Volunteers who served in Mongolia. The Friends of Mongolia scholarship, which is renewable, seeks to enhance opportunities for young men from Mongolia's rural areas because they are underrepresented in Mongolian universities. The scholarship provides one-year full tuition for rural male students, who demonstrate high potential and financial need, to receive university education in Ulaanbaatar or other aimag centers.

This scholarship and the Friends of Mongolia organization exemplify the increasing private sector initiatives that connect Mongolians and Americans.
