New Peace Corps Volunteers Swearing-in to Serve in Mongolia

Forty seven trainees have been living with Mongolian families for three months and learning the Mongolian language and all about Mongolian culture.  They have been living in communities around Bayangol, Sukhbaatar and Dulaankhaan.  The new Peace Corps Volunteers will be sworn in by US Ambassador Mark Minton on August 18, 2007 in Ulaanbaatar.  The new volunteers have made a commitment to serve for a period of 2 years, and will be stationed all over the country.

Peace Corps Mongolia started in 1991 at the request of the Mongolian Government.  Currently there are 101 Peace Corps Volunteers in Mongolia, including the class that is swearing-in.  They work in English Education, Youth Development, Enterprise Development, and Health.  Since its inception, more than 600 Americans have served as Peace Corps Volunteers in Mongolia.

Media are welcome to cover the event at the State Drama Academic Theater at 1100 on Saturday, August 18, 2007.
