American Embassy Translates Journals to Promote Environmental Awareness

April 22 is celebrated worldwide as Earth Day.  To promote environmental awareness and protection, the American Embassy has translated several journals about environmental issues into Mongolian.  The two most recent journals are printed bilingually in English and Mongolian to provide recent information on environmental issues as well as practical study materials for teachers and students of English.  The journals can be viewed and downloaded at the Embassy website.

The Greening of U.S. Corporations - delves into what those familiar with the history of the environmental movement in the United States might see as a surprising trend – the way U.S. corporations in recent years have embraced environmentally friendly ways of doing business.  Text available bilingually.

Rachel Carson: Pen Against Poison – Carson had two lifelong passions—a love of nature and a love of writing—that compelled her in 1962 to publish Silent Spring, the book that awakened environmental consciousness in the American public and led to an unprecedented national effort to safeguard the natural world from chemical destruction.  Text available bilingually.

Clean Energy Solutions – Projected dramatic increases in energy consumption in the coming decades, combined with a higher risk of climate change, require a massive global response based on technological innovation and the power of the marketplace. Experts and government officials describe the options before us, including renewable energy, novel vehicles, and low-carbon power generation, and discuss the best ways leading to a sustainable energy future.  Text available in English or Mongolian.

Protecting the Environment: 30 Years of U.S. Progress – The United States has taken a leadership role as a global environmental steward in developing a better understanding of environmental options and in shaping a sustainable approach to development.  Text available in English or Mongolian.

DESERTIFICATION: Earth's Silent Scourge attempts to define, explain, and offer suggestions about how to deal with the insidious process of land degradation in agricultural and forest areas worldwide that is known as desertification.  Text available in English or Mongolian.
