Secretary Rice’s Letter Congratulating Foreign Minister Enkhbold on the 20th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between the United States and Mongolia
Dear Mr. Minister:
I write to offer my best wishes as we celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the United States and Mongolia.
On January 27, 1987, our two countries forged a relationship that continues to broaden and deepen. Our cooperation over the years has demonstrated that the physical distance that separates us is far less significant than the shared values and common interests that unite us.
The comprehensive partnership between our two countries is strong and mutually beneficial. From the work of the Peace Corps and USAID to our Defense Department's assistance on strengthening Mongolia's peacekeeping capabilities, we seek to help Mongolia build on its democratic and economic successes of the past 20 years. Our cooperation should be further expanded in 2007 by the signing of a Compact for the Millennium Challenge Account.
The United States greatly appreciates Mongolia's contribution to the coalition forces assisting the peoples of Iraq and Afghanistan in their efforts to secure their freedom and rebuild their nations. We also appreciate Mongolia's leadership in the Community of Democracies and other international forums.
Mongolians and Americans can reflect on the past twenty years of our relationship with great pride. The future for our partnership is equally bright.
Sincerely,
Condoleeza Rice
His Excellency
N. Enkhbold,
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar
